Description
Photograph inside the Jewel Box while the water fountains are operational and running.
The Jewel Box is an art deco floral conservatory built in 1936 by the City of St. Louis and registered with the National Register of Historic Places. It is located on the Southeast edge of Forest Park. The inside is filled with tropical plants and palm trees. The building itself is constructed with cantilevered vertical glass reaching up to 50 feet high. The outside grounds are wonderfully landscaped with trees, flowers and ponds. Because it is used as a popular wedding venue, the inside fountains are turned off 364 days out of the year. Having shown up in 2016 and finding the fountains still dismantled on the 1 day they are supposed to be operational, I feel even more fortunate having captured the fountains back in 2015. This shot was taken just seconds after they turned on the water.
